Mindsets were created by experiences you faced in your everyday life and now they impact how you respond to events. These mindsets can keep you trapped, frustrated, and unable to move forward. They cause us to fail, make wrong decisions, or over-react to situations as they act like “filters” over our eyes keeping us from seeing the full picture. You can reset – refresh your mindset to be set free by following these steps:
Step 1: Identify your mindset. Think of a time when you felt frustrated or un-appreciated, or you over-reacted to a situation. Did your gut ache? Did you repeatedly re-live the situation in your head and want to quit? With that event in your mind, write down your thoughts or internal dialogue, then identify what triggered those thoughts.
Step 2: Decide that your mindsets and thinking need to be adjusted. Be willing to open your mind and investigate why you had these feelings and thoughts. Identify if there was an original event in your past that has kept you “locked up” in a filtered vision.
Step 3: Take this emotional situation and think of it in 3 ways. We tend to think of our solution as either “right or wrong”. I challenge you to think of your situation in a 3-solution- way instead: Option A, Option B, and Option C. By looking at your situation in a 3-solution way- you take the negativity of right and wrong out of your thinking process and remove the deception you were believing. This step opens your eyes to see the full picture.
Step 4: Reflect on your belief system. Remember our mindsets are deeply ingrained by our beliefs, so in order to change our mindsets we have to examine our beliefs. What beliefs are supporting or limiting your advancement? Identifying your belief system is the only way to move forward and not be “stuck”.
Step 5: Contemplate how this particular mindset has defined you as a person. You were created to move mountains so how is your mindset STOPPING you from being successful?
Step 6: Turn your limiting mindsets into empowering mindsets. Challenge your existing mindsets and the next time you feel the negative mindset creeping up on you- STOP- avoid reacting! Go back through Steps 1-4 and identify the truth so you can be set free!
